about

Monopoly Of Violence was the album which was our little breaktrough in the industrial and rhythmnic noise scene. A lot of DJs picked it up, and some songs made it into proper clubhits. "Antiglobalist I" did especially well, and also made it to two compilation albums, and the title track in an other version made it to another compilation.

This album follows the line of political inspired conceptalbums, though this one is more abstract in nature, and as such this is also the album we left the communist imaginary and went for a more misantropic nihilistic approach. "Monopoly Of Violence" is about power, the power of state, manipulation, propaganda and resistance. With this album we were effectively predicting the occupy and anomynous movements of the later years, because freedom and resistance is what this album is all about.

This album also caused some minor drama because of the inclusion of a breakcore version of the skinhead song "Pulling On The Boots" which is also featured in the Romper Stomper soundtrack. The idea of covering this song was because of former member Daryl. We were hanging out at the second (and last) edition of a goth party in Amsterdam, and Romper Stomper was shown prior to the party. We were sitting there wtaching the movie, and when the song came on, Daryl stomped me and said: "We have to cover this song!" So the next day i went to search for the chords and such.

For recording of the vocals we went to a youthcentre near me which had a practice room. We picked up two girls who were hanging there to do the backing vocals and one verse, and history was made!

A live version of the song from 2004 was put on Youtube by me, and has had lots of angry comments by skinheads and such, because there you had a racist violent white supremist skinhead song, sung by a black guy. We both (though Daryl is not in the band anymore, we are still friends and keep contact) to this day enjoy the ungoing shitstorm that one caused.

released January 1, 2005

All song written by Pieter Winkelaar, except The Lesser Holy War which was written by Pieter Winkelaar and Daryl Grootfaam. Pulling On The Boots is a cover version of the song on the Romper Stomper soundtrack, but we were never able to find any credits on that, and we do not bother now since the album is out for 8 years now. Vocals there are by Daryl Grootfaam, Renske Zeinstra. and another girl of which i forgot the name.
